What you get for the money
Artemide is a luxury tier: you are paying for design authorship, extruded and die-cast aluminum bodies, blown glass on the decorative pieces, and optics developed in-house rather than bought in. Artemide North America publishes its warranty on its own site: one year for consumers, extended to five years if you register online within two months of purchase, and an automatic five years for professional installations in the USA and Canada purchased after 1 January 2018. Parts availability on the long-running families, particularly Tolomeo, is a real part of the value.
Where it gets used
Tolomeo and Tizio are the default desk and reading lamps in architectural offices, libraries and studies. The suspension families (Discovery, Pirce, Copernico, Nur) get used over dining tables, in hotel lobbies and in double-height stair volumes where the fixture is meant to be the object you look at. The architectural, recessed and track ranges appear in museums, retail and workplace projects where the lighting is designed rather than picked from a catalog.
Specifying notes
Many Artemide families are sold as a system, not a single SKU: Tolomeo alone exists as table, clip, wall, spot, floor, reading, suspension, off-center and shaded configurations across Micro, standard, Maxi and Mega scales, so the configuration has to be pinned down before ordering. Dimming behavior varies by family and by whether the piece is integrated LED or lamped, and some app- or gesture-controlled pieces need their own driver, so confirm the control method against the dimmer being installed. Consumers should register the fixture within two months of purchase to get the five-year term rather than one year.
