About DMF Lighting

DMF Lighting is a family-owned, independent manufacturer based in Carson, California. It is best known for modular LED recessed downlighting: instead of a sealed fixture, the housing, trim, module and driver are separate field-interchangeable components, and the serviceable parts come out from below the ceiling.

That one design decision drives most of the reasons DMF gets specified. A trim style or a color temperature can be changed after the ceiling closes. A failed module is a below-ceiling swap rather than an attic or plenum call. And on a hotel or multifamily renovation where nobody wants to open finished ceilings, the retrofit and conversion kits let existing housings take new modules. The company holds more than 200 patents and runs its own testing labs for color consistency and dimmer compatibility.

The range goes beyond downlights into cylinders, concealed linear, surface mount, decorative pendants and IP65 coastal and marine-grade luminaires — the last of which is directly relevant on a waterfront South Florida property, where a covered terrace still counts as a wet, salt-laden location.

Getting DMF Lighting on your job

DMF Lighting is carried on the South Florida line card of SESCO Lighting. That is what decides who can sell it to you: lighting manufacturers appoint one representative per territory, and the rep for your job site is the one that matters — not the one nearest the manufacturer.

If it is on your schedule in South Florida, send it over and I will price the DMF Lighting lines with everything else, chase the submittals and stay on the lead times.

Why ask me about it

Thirteen years in lighting in this market, most of it on the distribution side and now on the rep side of the desk. I know which lines hold a spec, which ones slip on lead time, and what the substitution is going to be when value engineering starts.

DMF publishes a turtle-friendly line stated as compliant with FWC guidelines — a Cree red-orange LED above 560 nm with no color filter, UL wet location on flanged trims, and its own IES files. That is a genuine coastal-ordinance answer in a recessed downlight, which is rare.

Common questions about DMF Lighting

Who is the DMF Lighting rep in South Florida?

I do. I represent this line in South Florida — if you are specifying it here, call me on 786-395-1222 and I will price it, chase samples and drawings, and keep it on the schedule through submittal.

What do I quote from the DMF Lighting line?

Most often recessed downlights, pendants and linear and architectural fixtures. That is what I see on jobs, not the whole catalog. If you need something from DMF Lighting that is not listed there, send the model numbers and I will check it.

Can you supply DMF Lighting outside South Florida?

Not outside South Florida. SESCO holds this line for Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Monroe counties, and I am the rep here. For a job elsewhere I will point you to the agency that holds it in that territory.

How do I get pricing on DMF Lighting?

Send the fixture schedule, the drawings or a list of model numbers through the quote form. You will get a line-by-line price and current lead times, usually within one business day. The takeoff costs you nothing.

What makes DMF Lighting different from other downlights?

The system is modular. Housing, trim, light module and driver are separate, field-interchangeable parts, and they are serviced from below the ceiling without plenum access. Color temperature, beam and trim style can be changed after the ceiling is closed.

Does DMF make coastal or wet-location fixtures?

Yes — DMF publishes IP65 coastal and marine-grade luminaires. On a South Florida waterfront property, covered terraces, soffits and outdoor kitchens generally need that rating rather than a standard damp-location trim.

Who owns DMF Lighting?

DMF is independent and family-owned, which is unusual in recessed downlighting — most of the competing lines sit inside large corporate groups.

Can DMF retrofit existing recessed housings?

That is one of the main uses of the line. DMF publishes retrofit and conversion kits that let existing housings take current LED modules, which is how most occupied hotel and multifamily renovations get done without opening ceilings.

Ask me about DMF Lighting

Not ready for a full quote? Ask the question — whether the line holds a spec, what the lead time looks like, or what I would put up as an alternative. I usually come back the same business day.

Or call 786-395-1222, Monday to Friday, nine to five. If you have drawings or a fixture schedule to attach, use the quote form instead. On contract work I cover lighting takeoffs, value engineering and submittals end to end.
