ERCO was founded in 1934 in Lüdenscheid, Germany, where it still designs, produces and ships everything. It is a family-owned business of around a thousand employees operating in roughly fifty-five countries, and it calls itself the Light Factory. It pioneered architectural lighting across Europe in the 1960s, and in 2015 became the first established luminaire manufacturer to convert its entire program to LED.
The company sells light rather than fixtures, and the difference shows in the catalog: track spotlights, recessed luminaires and LED luminaires for architectural applications, organized by application — public, work, culture, shop, community, contemplation, living, hospitality. Parscan, Uniscan and Eclipse are the principal families, each available in 48V, InTrack and OnTrack versions.
Spherolit is the reason specifiers go to ERCO. It is a patented lens system that changes the beam characteristic by swapping a lens rather than by changing the fixture, so one luminaire can be narrow spot in one position and wide flood in the next. In a museum, a gallery, a retail space or a South Florida residence with an art collection, that means the lighting can be re-aimed and re-characterised as the contents change without buying new fixtures. ERCO Greenology is its sustainability strategy.

What is Spherolit?
Spherolit is ERCO’s patented lens system. Changing the lens changes the beam — narrow spot, flood, wall wash, oval — without changing the luminaire, so a track installation can be re-characterised as the room or the exhibition changes.
