Hinkley was founded in 1922 by Phil Hinkley in Cleveland making solid copper outdoor fixtures, and is still family-run in its fourth generation from Avon Lake, Ohio. The range now covers interior hanging, ceiling, wall and bath lighting, a deep outdoor and landscape program, and ceiling fans added through the 2019 Regency Ceiling Fans acquisition; it also owns Fredrick Ramond. What you get for the money
Premium residential. The clearest expression of what the money buys is the outdoor finish warranty structure: Hinkley covers outdoor finishes for two years as standard, and Coastal Elements finishes for five years in both residential and commercial or hospitality use. The brand's origins in solid copper outdoor fixtures still show in the material quality of the exterior range.
Where it gets used
Whole-house residential lighting, with real strength on the exterior - wall mounts, post and pier mounts, hanging lanterns and landscape path and accent lighting. Covered lanais, pool decks and outdoor kitchens use the fan range. Hospitality and light commercial work uses the outdoor and landscape lines on clubhouses, resort grounds and restaurant exteriors.
Specifying notes
Read the Hinkley warranty carefully before specifying near the water. Hinkley states plainly that the environment within ten miles of a sea coast can be extremely corrosive, that some corrosion and deterioration there is considered normal wear, and that claims for finish failure or corrosion of other components due to coastal conditions are not applicable to the warranty. Coastal Elements uses weather-resistant composite materials with anti-fading finishes and carries a 5-year finish warranty, which is the practical answer for a Hallandale Beach or oceanfront property. Confirm damp versus wet listing on outdoor and fan items individually.
