Hunter Fan Company was founded in 1886 and has been based in Memphis, Tennessee since 1946. It is owned by Griffon Corporation, which acquired it through The AMES Companies in a transaction that closed in January 2022. Griffon’s acquisition materials describe Hunter as the leading US brand in its category.
The catalog is ceiling fans first — indoor and outdoor — with a lighting range of chandeliers, pendants, flush mounts and wall sconces alongside it, plus portable fans, industrial and commercial fans, and home environment products such as air purifiers and humidifiers. Casablanca is the premium fan brand, Hunter Original the heritage line, and HunterSMART the connected range. SureSpeed and WeatherMax are its named technologies, and ceiling fans carry a limited lifetime warranty.
In South Florida a ceiling fan is not a decorative afterthought. Covered terraces, lanais, screened porches and outdoor kitchens all need a fan that carries the right damp or wet location listing and a finish that survives salt air, and getting that listing wrong is the most common reason an outdoor fan fails early. Ask for the location listing on the schedule, not the finish name.
