The line above is not mine, and the agency named is who prices it. That is the whole answer when the specification is holding. It is not the answer when the controls scope is still being decided, when the schedule will not survive a lead time, or when the budget came back and controls is the line everybody is staring at.

What you get for the money
Lutron is the architectural tier of lighting control, and the price reflects a system rather than a device. What the money buys is dimming performance that actually holds across a mixed LED load, a published dimmer-to-lamp compatibility program, RF reliability from Lutron's own Clear Connect protocol, and a product line that stays available and supported for many years — which matters when a house has forty keypads in it and one fails in year eight. At the low end, a single Diva or Caséta dimmer is priced close to mass-market alternatives.
Where it gets used
Single-room retrofits with a Caséta dimmer and a Pico remote at one end; whole-house RadioRA 3 or HomeWorks systems with keypads, shades and integrated lighting in high-end residential at the other. Commercially, Vive covers office and retail retrofits where running control wiring is impractical, Athena covers specified new construction, and myRoom XC handles hotel guest rooms. Motorized shades are frequently the entry point on a project, then the lighting control follows.
Specifying notes
Dimmer-to-lamp compatibility is the recurring problem in the field, not the dimmer itself: Lutron publishes compatibility data per control, and flicker or limited dimming range almost always traces to an LED driver that does not match the dimmer type (forward phase, reverse phase or 0-10V). Confirm whether a load is line-voltage dimming or low-voltage before selecting. On systems, the choice between Caséta, RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks is driven by device count, programming depth and whether the job is DIY or pro-installed — Lutron publishes a system-selection guide, and moving up later usually means replacing hardware rather than upgrading in place. Confirm neutral-wire requirements per control model before ordering.

Why does my LED flicker on a Lutron dimmer?
Almost always a mismatch between the LED driver and the dimmer type rather than a faulty dimmer. Check Lutron's published compatibility list for the specific control and lamp or driver, and confirm whether the load needs forward phase, reverse phase or 0-10V dimming.
Does Lutron have a warranty?
