This is home. Hold the Spec has been on Hallandale Beach Boulevard since 1983, and a good deal of what we do never leaves the city — condominium common areas along the Intracoastal, houses either side of Federal Highway, restaurants and small commercial along the boulevard.
If you live or work here, the useful thing about a local showroom is not the website. It is that you can stand in front of a fixture, see what the finish actually looks like, and take it with you.
What we do for Hallandale Beach projects
- Walk in and see it lit. Chandeliers, pendants, sconces, fans, outdoor fixtures. Photographs flatten everything; a finish that looks bronze on a screen is often not.
- Someone who will help you choose. Raya runs the showroom and is very good at working out what a room actually needs, which is a different skill from knowing the catalogue.
- Contract pricing on the same counter. If you are a contractor or a property manager rather than a homeowner, send the schedule and we will price it line by line, usually within one business day.
- Replacements and matching. Bring in the old fixture, or a photograph of the label inside it, and we will find the current equivalent or something that sits beside the originals without announcing itself.
What we see most in Hallandale Beach
A lot of this city is condominium, and much of it is old enough to be in the maintenance cycle. Broward runs a building safety inspection programme that generally starts at 25 years and repeats every ten, and when walkways, garages and balconies are opened up and repainted, the fixtures come down and something has to go back up.
- Condominium common areas. Corridors, lobbies, elevator lobbies, stairwells, garages, pool decks. Usually a matching job as much as a buying job, because whatever is up there was bought fifteen years ago and nobody has the model numbers. See condo and HOA lighting.
- Anything east of Federal is a corrosion job. Close to open water, fixtures fail at the fasteners and the gasket long before the body. Material and finish matter more here than fixture style does. Our coastal lighting guide sets out what to specify.
- Beachfront lighting is regulated. Hallandale Beach has a sea turtle lighting ordinance, and along this coast nesting season runs 1 March to 31 October. Exterior lighting visible from the beach has to be low, shielded and long-wavelength at 560 nanometres or greater — a warm white LED does not qualify.
- Residential. Houses and townhouses, kitchens and baths, outdoor and landscape. The showroom is set up for exactly this.

Coastal lighting rules in Hallandale Beach
Hallandale Beach adopted its own coastal lighting ordinance in 2001, at Chapter 6, Article I of the city code.
Broward County runs its nesting season from 1 March to 31 October, and the county ordinance sits at Chapter 39, Article IX, adopted back in 1989.
This is our own city, and the beachfront here is almost entirely condo towers. That shapes the work: an exterior relamp is rarely one owner making one decision, it is an association, a manager and a budget cycle, and the compliant fixture has to survive salt air on an oceanfront elevation for years rather than seasons.
Exterior lighting on a property with line of sight to the beach has to be long wavelength, fully shielded and mounted low. Can you help me match a fixture in my condo?
That is one of the more common things we do. Bring the fixture in if you can, or a photograph of it and of the label inside. Most fixtures more than about ten years old are discontinued, but there is usually a current equivalent with the same mounting.
Do you sell to the public or only to trade?
Both. The showroom is open to anyone. The contract side handles fixture schedules and quantity work for contractors, developers and property managers.
Are you open weekends?
No. Monday to Friday, nine to five.
