About Wattstopper

Wattstopper is Legrand’s lighting controls brand, part of Legrand North and Central America, whose head office is in West Hartford, Connecticut. Legrand styles the name as one word. The line is controls rather than luminaires: occupancy and vacancy sensors, fixture sensors, photocells and exterior controls, time-based controls, power packs and load controllers, wall box dimmers, architectural and OEM dimming, and control panels.

The core system is Digital Lighting Management — DLM — positioned as flexible, scalable, connected room-based control, with LMRC room and load controllers and LMSW wall switches and personal controls as the building blocks. Wattstopper PLUS is the networked lighting control platform built on the Encelium technology Legrand acquired, and Encelium product has been rebranded into it.

Controls are where most Florida energy code compliance actually happens. The code wants occupancy sensing, daylight response and automatic shut-off documented, and on a commercial fit-out that is usually a DLM room controller, a couple of sensors and a wall station rather than a whole building system. Wattstopper and Genlyte Solutions have announced compatibility work, which matters if the fixtures on the job are Signify brands.

Why ask me about it

Thirteen years in lighting in this market, most of it on the distribution side and now on the rep side of the desk. I know which lines hold a spec, which ones slip on lead time, and what the substitution is going to be when value engineering starts.

Controls are where a lighting package usually goes wrong on site. The LMRC-213-U switches one to three relays totaling 15 or 20 amps with a 0-10V output per relay — get the relay count and the dimming protocol agreed before the fixtures are released, not after.

Common questions about WattStopper by Legrand

Who is the WattStopper by Legrand lighting rep in South Florida?

I represent this line in South Florida — if you are specifying it here, call me on 786-395-1222 and I will price it, chase samples and drawings, and keep it on the schedule through submittal.

What do I quote from the WattStopper by Legrand line?

Most often dimmers and lighting controls. That is what I see on jobs, not the whole catalog. If you need something from WattStopper by Legrand that is not listed there, send the model numbers and I will check it.

Can you supply WattStopper by Legrand outside South Florida?

Not outside South Florida. SESCO holds this line for Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Monroe counties, and I am the rep here. For a job elsewhere I will point you to the agency that holds it in that territory.

How do I get pricing on WattStopper by Legrand?

The quote form takes drawings, a fixture schedule or a plain list of catalog numbers. Expect a line-by-line price and current lead times, usually within one business day, at no cost.

What does Wattstopper make?

Lighting controls, not luminaires — occupancy and vacancy sensors, photocells, dimmers, power packs, load controllers, panels, and the DLM room-based control system.

What is DLM?

Digital Lighting Management is Wattstopper’s room-based control platform. LMRC controllers, LMSW wall switches and plug-in sensors connect over a local bus, so a room can be commissioned on its own and networked later if the project needs it.

What happened to Encelium?

Encelium is Legrand’s networked lighting control technology and it has been rebranded into Wattstopper PLUS, the networked platform built on it.

Do I need lighting controls to pass the Florida energy code?

In most commercial applications yes — automatic shut-off, occupancy sensing and daylight response are typically required and have to be documented. On a fit-out that is usually a room controller, sensors and a wall station rather than a building-wide system. Send the plans and I will scope it.

Ask me about WattStopper by Legrand

Not ready for a full quote? Ask the question — whether the line holds a spec, what the lead time looks like, or what I would put up as an alternative. I usually come back the same business day.

Or call 786-395-1222, Monday to Friday, nine to five. If you have drawings or a fixture schedule to attach, use the quote form instead. On a bid or a full package, I do line-by-line lighting takeoffs and submittal packages from your drawings.
