Method: RT60 = 0.049 × V ÷ A (Sabine, feet). Existing absorption uses typical published NRC values for the finishes listed; furniture and people are added as a flat allowance. Array figures are Focal Point’s design-guide values at 1000 Hz for a 14' ceiling. The Nivo figure is derived from the guide’s 3,840 sq ft conference example (638 Sabins). Small rooms under about 1,500 cu ft do not reverberate in a way this formula describes well; treat those by surface area instead, which is exactly what Focal Point did on the CSHQA job below.

Where the numbers come from

Before you rely on it

The array Sabins-per-square-foot figures are Focal Point's own, taken from its acoustic design guide at 12-inch baffle height and 1000 Hz. The absorption values for floors, walls and ceilings are typical published coefficients for common finishes, not measurements of your room. Room-type targets are common design targets — the classroom figure follows ANSI S12.60 — and none of them is a code requirement. For anything that goes on a drawing, Focal Point will run the room properly; send me the plan and I will get it to them.
