Williams: Troffers, Downlights, High Bay, Vaportight and Exterior, Read Off the Published Sheets
H.E. Williams, Inc. has been in Carthage, Missouri since 1921 and is a third-generation, family-owned American manufacturer. It publishes Build America, Buy America and Buy American Act compliance, over sixty City of Chicago approved luminaires, NSF splash-zone certification on the washdown families, and a 48-hour QuickShip program. On my card it is the line that covers the ordinary building end to end — and the one that answers a federally funded job without a fight.
Have a fixture schedule to price, a BABA job, or a washdown area to solve?
Company, compliance and warranty
| Company | H.E. Williams, Inc., 831 West Fairview Avenue, Carthage, Missouri. Founded 1921; third-generation, family-owned and operated |
|---|---|
| Manufacturing | One published production facility, in Carthage, Missouri. Williams publishes that it manufactures from raw materials to finished goods there. Note that the plant size is published two ways — over 300,000 square feet on the history page and four hundred thousand square feet on the Buy American page |
| US manufacture | Published as proudly manufactured in the USA using domestically sourced materials |
| BABA and BAA | Published wording: Williams delivers quality lighting that meets Build America, Buy America (BABA), and Buy American Act (BAA) standards and other federal regulations. Individual spec sheets carry the product-level line. The catalog is filterable by BAA Compliant, BABA Compliant and Made in the USA |
| Compliance packet | Williams publishes a certification-request process covering the Buy American Act, DOD procurement, FAA, FHWA, FRA and FTA requirements and Build America Buy America provisions, requiring the catalog numbers and quantities on the project. That is a call I make for you |
| Domestic content percentage | Not published. No cost-of-components percentage and no BAA threshold year appear on the public pages |
| Warranty | Five-year limited warranty from date of shipment on LED products and on finish, effective 1 March 2024 |
| Warranty, components | Drivers, emergency batteries, photocells and poles are covered by their respective component manufacturers’ warranties, not by Williams. Those terms are not published |
| Warranty, LED failure threshold | A product is not considered defective if fewer than 15 percent of LED components fail to emit light |
| Warranty exclusions | Improper handling, storage or installation, failure to follow maintenance instructions, negligence, misuse, unauthorized repair, acts of God, and abnormal site conditions including corrosive environments, excessive temperatures and vibration. Field labor, access and removal are excluded |
| Lead time, standard | Not published. The terms state the shipment date is only the seller’s estimate |
| QuickShip | Ready to ship within 48 hours. QuickShip items carry a -QS- designation in the catalog number; over 100 pieces of one item goes to the factory |
| Returns | Written approval required within 60 days of shipment, credited less a minimum 35 percent service charge and less the freight. Non-stocking, special, custom or modified fixtures are non-returnable |

How a Williams catalog number is built
Williams publishes an ordering example at the bottom of every LED spec sheet, and the grammar is consistent: series, size or length, lumen package with CRI and CCT, shielding, options, control or driver, voltage — with mounting, trim, reflector and hardware appended on downlights and cylinders.
| Lumen package | L plus hundreds of lumens. L54 is 5,400 lumens; L460 is 46,000 lumens |
|---|---|
| CRI and CCT | One three-digit code. 835 is 80 CRI at 3500K; 750 is 70 CRI at 5000K; 840 is 80 CRI at 4000K |
| FieldSELECT | LS replaces the lumen package and 8CS replaces the CRI and CCT field — FT-24-LS/8CS-AF-OPTIONS-DIM-UNV |
| QuickShip | A -QS- designation inside the model number |
| Voltage | 120, 208, 240, 277, UNV for 120 to 277V, 347, 480, and HV for 347 to 480V on GNR |
| Worked examples | LT-24-L52/835-AF-DIM-UNV · HETG-S24-L76/835-A-OPTIONS-DIM-UNV · 76-4-L53/840-OPTIONS-CONTROL/DIM-UNV · 96-4-L62/840-HIAFR-OPTIONS-CONTROL/DRV-UNV · GP4-L460/850-M-DIM-UNV · WMA-4-L80/835-AF-EM/10W-DIM-UNV · VA1-L220/750-T5-F-S-DBZ-OPTIONS-DIM-UNV · 2DR-L20/835-DIM-UNV-OW-OF-CS-N-F1 |
| Driver codes | DIM is a driver with external 0-10V dimming wires; DRV is a driver without dimming wires; DIM1 is 1 percent minimum; DIM LINE and DIM TRC are line-voltage triac and ELV at 120V; SD40 and SD50 are step dimming at 40 and 50 percent |

Codes and programs
| NSF, food service | NSF/ANSI Standard 2 Splash Zone certified on GNR, 96, 97, HZL, EGL2 and the BP backlit flat panel. The EXIT/IP is published as a NEMA 4X and NSF exit sign. A Food Zone listing is not published for any family |
|---|---|
| Chicago Plenum | Over sixty City of Chicago approved luminaires, with a dedicated product guide and a certification filter. Product-level wording is City of Chicago Environmental Air approved when specified with the CP option, published on 2DR, 6DR and HET, plus a Chicago-approved egress sub-line |
| Title 24 and JA8 | Published as Title 24 JA8 compliant in select configurations on 2DR and 6DR. VA1 is published as Title 24 compliant for specified options, and the Voltaire wall packs as Title 24 compliant with the optional sensor. | DLC | Published per family on the spec sheet, hedged as not all versions or with version restrictions. HET, LT, FT, BP, LRX4, NW, GS, GNR, 96, 97, EGL and HZL carry a published DLC claim, and Avi-on is published as DLC 5.0 compliant. No DLC product ID is published |
| Seismic | Williams publishes an accessory rather than a certification — EQCLIPS, combination earthquake and NEC T-bar clips securing the luminaire to NEMA ceiling types G, SS and NFG. No OSHPD, IBC or ICC-ES report is published |
| Other published listings | NYC-approved egress; IDA Dark-Sky on VA1 and the Voltaire wall packs; ANSI C136.31 3G vibration on VA1; IK10 on MX4D flat shielding; ISO 5 through 9 clean room on LT and the MCT clean room troffer line |
What Williams does not publish
| Standard lead time | Not published. QuickShip is 48 hours on the listed series; everything else is the seller’s estimate |
|---|---|
| Domestic content percentage | BABA and BAA compliance is asserted, but no cost-of-components percentage, threshold year or per-family list is published. The certification packet has to be requested against your catalog numbers |
| DLC product IDs | Qualification is asserted and hedged by version, without a table of which lumen package, CCT and CRI combinations are listed. That blocks a rebate check from published data alone, and GP, WPCS, VA1, the Voltaire wall packs, WMA, 6CR and 4RCD publish no DLC claim at all |
| NSF Food Zone | Only Splash Zone is published, which limits direct-over-food applications |
| Seismic certification | Only the EQCLIPS accessory. No OSHPD or ICC-ES report |
| IP ratings on interior and high bay | GP and GS publish no IP rating; several architectural interior families publish IP5X or nothing |
| BUG ratings and photometric values | Distribution is published as type codes and lumen multipliers. No BUG rating and no uplight percentage appears in the published spec text, which several South Florida exterior ordinances ask for |
| Component warranty terms | Drivers, emergency batteries, photocells and poles are excluded from the Williams warranty and referred to their component manufacturers, whose terms and identities are not published |
| Emergency battery duration | Published once, as 90 minutes on the BP EM/10W KIT-DC-QS. Every other EM option publishes wattage but not rated duration |
| Wind and HVHZ | No Florida Product Approval, no Miami-Dade NOA and no HVHZ statement is published for the exterior families |
Questions I get
Who represents Williams in South Florida?
I do, through SESCO Lighting, in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Monroe. The manufacturer is H.E. Williams, Inc. of Carthage, Missouri.
Is Williams BABA and Buy American compliant?
Williams publishes that it meets Build America, Buy America and Buy American Act standards, its spec sheets carry the product-level line, and the catalog filters on BAA Compliant, BABA Compliant and Made in the USA. It does not publish a domestic-content percentage. Williams runs a certification-packet process against the catalog numbers and quantities on a specific project, and that is a call I make for you rather than a form you fill in.
Which Williams products are NSF listed for food service?
GNR, 96, 97, HZL, EGL2 and the BP backlit flat panel are published as NSF/ANSI Standard 2 Splash Zone certified, and the EXIT/IP is published as a NEMA 4X and NSF exit sign. Williams publishes Splash Zone, not Food Zone, so a fixture directly over open food needs a different conversation.
How fast can I get Williams product?
QuickShip is published as ready to ship within 48 hours, on the listed series, with a -QS- designation in the model number and a factory call above 100 pieces of one item. Williams publishes no standard lead time for anything outside QuickShip — its terms say the ship date is an estimate. Send me the schedule and I will get real dates from the factory.
What is FieldSELECT?
Williams’ published name for switch-selectable lumen output and color temperature on the fixture, so one part number covers three lumen packages and three to five color temperatures without extra wiring or controls. Published on the FT troffer, the BP panel and the 4RCD downlight, with 4FDR, 6FDR, 6RCD and the FS strip also named as FieldSELECT. It is the fastest way to cut a fixture schedule down to fewer part numbers.
Does Williams publish a Chicago Plenum list?
Yes. Williams publishes over sixty City of Chicago approved luminaires with a dedicated product guide and a catalog filter, and the product-level wording is City of Chicago Environmental Air approved when specified with the CP option. That is a Chicago program, not a Florida one, but it tells you the plenum-rated construction exists on those families.
How long is the Williams warranty?
Five years from date of shipment on LED products and on finish, effective 1 March 2024. Drivers, emergency batteries, photocells and poles sit under their component manufacturers’ warranties instead, and those terms are not published. A product is not treated as defective if fewer than 15 percent of its LED components fail to emit light.
Where the numbers come from, and where to go next
Every figure on this page is read off H.E. Williams’ own product pages, spec sheets, warranty, terms, brochures and program pages. Where Williams publishes nothing, or publishes two different figures, this page says so rather than picking one. Ask me for the current sheet on a specific catalog number before it goes in a submittal. · BABA and Buy America for lighting
