Focal Point: Acoustic Ceilings and Architectural Linear, Read Off the Published Sheets

Focal Point is a Chicago house, founded 1994, a Legrand brand since February 2020, running about 350,000 square feet of vertically integrated manufacturing on South Pulaski Road. It entered the acoustical market in 2018 and that is now the reason to look at it: the same company makes the linear fixture and the felt that quiets the room, on the same ceiling line. This page is built from their own cut sheets, and from the several places where two of their documents do not agree.

The families, and what each one is

Four platforms cover most of what lands on a South Florida schedule. The apertures are the fast way to tell them apart.

Seem 1	1.5 inch aperture. Recessed, suspended, surface, direct, direct-indirect, indirect, louver, point source, and the Trio and Quartet multiples. The one that goes in a drywall pocket or a slot tee.
Seem 2	2.5 inch aperture, plus a perimeter version with flush, 2.5 inch regress, 4 inch regress and grazing options. Tunable white runs 2700 to 6500 K on this platform.
Seem 4	4 inch aperture and the highest efficacy in the line, 91 to 138 lumens per watt on standard white. There is a wet location version and a behavioral health trim flange.
Skydome	2, 3 and 4 foot round, 25.2 to 48.2 inch diameter, 4.5 inches deep. Recessed, surface or pendant on stems or aircraft cable. Skydome Edge is the acoustic version.
ID+	Downlights and cylinders at 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 inch, round or square, in downlight, wall wash, adjustable accent and trimless. Warm dim and three tunable white ranges. 97 CRI is available here and nowhere else in the line.
Verve IV	Suspended indirect and direct, 4 and 8 foot, row mountable, 70/30 and 40/60 distributions.
Acoustic	AirCore Blade, TruBlade, Seem 1 and Seem 2 Acoustic baffles in 8, 12 and 16 inch heights; Skydome Edge Acoustic; Nivo and Ori 2x2 tiles; and the Plyta, Lia, Blume, Zyl and Eave pendants.

The acoustic side, and how to read the numbers

This is the part worth understanding before it goes on a schedule, because Focal Point deliberately publishes two different metrics and a specifier who asks for the wrong one gets nothing back.

The material is consistent across the whole acoustic range: 100 percent polyester PET felt, up to 50 percent recycled from bottles, 9 mm on the baffles, ASTM E84 Class A with a flame spread of 0, moisture resistant, Declare certified and Red List free. Three finish collections — nine standard solids plus fourteen premium, five wood and linen looks called The Naturals, and five called Cosmic.

Seem 1 and Seem 2 Acoustic, TruBlade	No NRC at all. Sabins per unit instead, at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz, by baffle height and spacing.

The reason they give is sound: NRC averages four one-third octave bands and is built for flat surfaces like a ceiling tile or a wall panel. A spaced baffle hanging in air is a three-dimensional object and Sabins is the honest metric for it. They publish a document on their own product pages titled Why no NRC.

For Seem 1 Acoustic and AirCore Blade the published Sabin table runs from 5.13 at an 8 inch baffle on 12 inch centers at 500 Hz, up to 18.80 at a 16 inch baffle on 24 inch centers at 2000 Hz. Focal Point states a Seem 1 Acoustic run adds 33.60 Sabins into the room, and that it absorbs thirteen times what drywall does.

If your acoustician has asked for an NRC on a baffle, the answer is that there is not one and there should not be one. Ask for the ASTM C423 report and the Sabin table instead, and I will get both.

The acoustic warranty is one year, not five	LED product carries five years to L70. Non-lit acoustic components carry one. On a mixed run of lit and unlit baffles those are two different warranties on the same ceiling line, and the unlit cut sheets print it plainly.
Drivers and controls are not warranted at all	The warranty document says so directly. The component manufacturer’s own warranty may apply. Liability is capped at the purchase price and excludes labor.
The DLC list is dated February 2021	Five and a half years old. Seem 1, Seem 2, Skydome, ID+, Verve and Avenue are not on it; Seem 4 is, along with Aerion, Amica, Amica 2, Equation 2, Facetta, Veer, Zephyr, Nera and Obscura. Check the current qualified products list before a rebate goes in a budget.
Stale cut sheets are still live and still rank	An August 2015 Skydome suspended sheet is reachable showing 3000 to 4000 K, 80 CRI only and 56 to 73 lumens per watt. The current revision Q, August 2025, shows 2700 to 4000 K, 80 or 90 CRI and 56.4 to 89.7. Same trap on the ID+ 3.5 inch. Pull the PDF from the product page, never from a search result.
IP65 on Seem 4 covers individual units only	The wet location sheet says so in those words. A continuous run does not carry the IP65.
Two of their own acoustic tables do not reconcile	AirCore Blade at 12 inch height reads 7.18, 7.23 and 7.94 Sabins on the product page and 6.78, 7.35 and 7.61 on cut sheet revision Q. The two are not normalized the same way. Get the underlying C423 report before anyone runs an RT60.
The C423 mounting type is not published	Not on the website, not in the brochure, not in the design guide. The reports themselves are scanned images. For a spaced baffle absorption claim that is the missing piece, and it has to come from the factory.
An expired Declare label is printed on a live sheet	Seem 2 Acoustic Unlit, dated July 2021, prints a Living Building Challenge label that expired 1 February 2022. If Declare credit is on the job, ask for a current one.
Buy America is conditional, not an attribute	The BABA guide names twenty-six families that may qualify and states that every configuration has to be vetted before a compliance letter is issued. A badge on a product page is not compliance.
Chicago plenum is an option and only on part of the line	Published on Seem 2 Perimeter, Skydome recessed and ID+ 3.5 inch. Not on the Seem 1 or Seem 4 sheets I read.
Configuration exclusions inside a family	Seem 2 pop-down lenses are not available with sensors, and the regress lens is ceiling applications only at 5.5 inches of housing height. Energy Star on ID+ requires the LD1 or L11 dimming code specifically.

What is published well, and where to get it

This is a well documented manufacturer, which is not true of every line on the card.

IES files	Published, as individual files and as grouped zips by lens type. Worth knowing: the Skydome files are all at 3500 K even though 2700 to 4000 K is offered.
Revit	A zip of families per product. No IFC.
Guide specification	Section 09 84 36, Sound-Absorbing Ceiling Units, as an editable Word file. That is the acoustic side. I could not find a Division 26 section number published for the lighting, so if your specification needs one, ask me and I will get it from the factory.
ASTM C423 reports	Nine per baffle family, one per configuration, published as PDFs.
Quickship	Five day and ten day programs, order clean by 11am Central, covering acoustic baffles and tiles, the linear families, ID+ and the troffers. Standard lead times outside quickship are not published anywhere — ask me.

One warning on sourcing. There is a site at focalpointus.com that presents itself as Focal Point, gives a different Chicago address and lists products that do not appear in the real catalog. The manufacturer is focalpointlights.com. Nothing on this page comes from anywhere else.

Questions I get

Who represents Focal Point in South Florida?

Focal Point is on the SESCO Lighting South Florida line card, and I am the rep here for Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Monroe. Send me the ceiling plan and I will price it.

Can I get an NRC for the Seem baffles?

No, and that is deliberate. NRC is built for flat surfaces. A spaced baffle publishes Sabins per unit at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz by height and spacing. I can send the ASTM C423 report for the exact configuration you are drawing.

Is the acoustic felt covered for five years like the light?

No. Non-lit acoustic components carry one year. The LED fixture inside a lit baffle carries five. Two warranties on the same run.

Is Focal Point DLC listed?

Part of the line is, on a list they last published in February 2021. Seem 4 is on it. Seem 1, Seem 2, Skydome and ID+ are not. If a rebate is in the budget I will confirm current status against the qualified products list before you commit.

What can I get quickly?

There is a five day and a ten day quickship program covering the acoustic baffles and tiles, the linear families, ID+ and the troffers. Custom lengths, premium and Cosmic finishes and curved runs are outside it and I will get you a real date.

Does it work outdoors or in a wet location?

Seem 4 has a wet location version, listed indoor and outdoor, IP65 on individual units only. ID+ 3.5 inch is listed dry, damp or wet but indoor use only. Nothing else in the families above is rated beyond damp.

Every figure on this page is read off Focal Point’s own product pages, revision-lettered cut sheets, acoustic design guide, warranty document, DLC and BABA reference guides and Quickship guide, fetched 14 September 2026. Where two of their documents disagree — the acoustic Sabin tables, the stale cut sheets still live on their server — this page says so rather than picking one. Where they publish nothing, it says that too.
